The Righteous Mob (a blog post “do over”)

I hate you because I feel safe when others point at you.

I hate you because the posts and tweets and TV tell me to.

I hate you because you refuse to live by my beliefs.

I hate you because of non-stop noise and images and screams.

I hate you because since I was young I always got my way.

I hate you because professors say America must change.

I hate you because my place in life is someone else’s fault.

I hate you because the hatred makes me feel like I belong.

I hate you because it drains me so to rally empathy.

I hate you because if I look at you, I fear that I’ll see me.

I hate you because you’re satisfied, content with what you’ve got.

I hate you because you’re a hater, and a hater I am not.
